Church Family,Â
Â
Our Summer Worship Series of Guest Preachers is nearing its end, and August Alderman will be bringing it down the backstretch for us on Sunday!
Much has happened in August Alderman's life in the last 5 years since he has been at Asbury. He got involved in our Reconciling Ministries and in other aspects of the church. August and his partner, Jason, then displayed an incredible gift for connecting with our older church members and assisting them. August also started to assist with the worship services at our Wesley Oak campus. And then he entered seminary — taking online courses at Chicago Theological Seminary. He plans to be receiving his M Div Degree in two years. Even more recently, August became a Stephen Minister.
I love it when August preaches as he often has a creative surprise for us. Many years ago, when Elizabeth Terry lived in Savannah and was a member of Asbury, she said, "One of the things that I love about Asbury is there's almost always some kind of surprise in its worship services." When August preaches, he tends to keep that tradition as he almost always has some kind of creative surprise for us. Like Elizabeth, I love surprises too and am looking forward to seeing what August has in store for us!
Come Join the Choir
The choir took a little break in July. but choir director, Ray Ellis, has started rehearsals again. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. The choir will be working on music for our worship services and on our God on Broadway Services. They will start back singing in our services a week from Sunday, on the 20th. If you like singing, laughing, and praying, you'll have a blast on Wednesdays at choir practice. If you have any questions, call the church office. Either Ray or Candace Jenkins will be in touch with you.
New Member Orientation Classes
The doors at Asbury and Wesley Oak are always open for people looking for a church home. Our next New Member Classes will be in October. If you are interested in learning more about church membership and the classes, please contact Candace Jenkins at the church office or contact me at bghester3@comcast.net.
REDÂ on the 20thÂ
In two weeks, we'll be celebrating the life of Virginia Holliday during our worship service on August 20th. Red was Miss Virginia's favorite color, so we're encouraging everyone to wear something red to the service. Think Pentecost!Â
We'll be having a BIG Coffee Hour after the service, so if you are able, please bring some food to share with others. You can drop off your food items at the kitchen.
