Worship promises to be rich this week, with our Children and Youth minister, Chris Kincade, delivering the sermon, “What if it Changes?” Chris has served as our Youth Director for the past five years. He loves to write, and he loves musicals. While Chris finds joy in many aspects of life and ministry, his greatest joy is his family: his amazing wife, Bridget and his inimitable son, Fitz. While Chris has been in the pulpit at Wesley Oak, he is happy to be leading worship this week.
With all of the church activity this month, it is easy to see that our ministries are ramping back up to full steam for the fall season. The Ministry Roundtable is planning an event to help everyone in the congregation discern where they might fit into the many ministries offered and supported at Asbury. Stay tuned for more information.
This week’s blood drive supplied enough badly needed blood to help save 45 lives! Thanks to the folks who donated, helped promote and offered hospitality to the donors and our Red Cross team.
On deck Saturday is the long-awaited grief seminar: Life after Loss. Many are planning to gather at the church to understand the grieving process and to find ways to manage our grief in healthy ways. We are looking forward to the fine leadership of Rev. Holland Morgan.
Summer has typically been a slower-paced time in the life of the church, but this year the hits have just kept on rolling: Beating Guns, Vacation Bible School, Godly Play, Stephen Ministry, Wisdom Seekers, Men’s Group, First Friends, the garden at Wesley Oak, the recent blood drive, grief workshop and Addictions 911 on August 20 and more. I want to thank our staff for working so diligently throughout the summer to support a vibrant church community. Their dedication to the life of the church in this season of vacations and absences has been remarkable. They have my admiration and gratitude.
Have a great weekend, everyone! One good way to ensure that is to come to church on Sunday, either in person or online.
 Peace and passion,
Claire
