Dear Church Family,Â
Â
I hope to see you at our Christmas Supper-Party tomorrow at 5:00 pm. It will be a good ole fashioned Covered Dish Supper, so we get to bring our favorite dishes to share with others. It's always good to see what new recipes and treats will appear each year. It's also good to have the traditional foods, too.
Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be joining us after supper to get to know the children of the church and to give them a treat or two. Parents and grandparents, be sure to have your phones and cameras ready to take pictures. You may want to get a picture with Santa, too! So spread the news that this is a special night for the children of the church. One reason we're starting earlier this year is so they can participate on a school night.
So come and spend time with your church family. Catch up with some old friends, and get to know some new ones!
Church Conference - Monday, December 11th, 6:30 pm
All church members are invited to attend our Annual December Church Conference. This special "church-wide" meeting is for all members of Asbury Memorial and Wesley Oak. It will be by ZOOM on Monday, December 11th at 6:30 pm. An email will be coming your way with information about the meeting and the Zoom information. Hope you can join us!
Caroling Next Sunday, the 17thÂ
We'll continue one of our great Asbury traditions next Sunday by going Christmas caroling after church. We'll quickly eat sandwiches after the worship service, and then caravan to three places: Harmony at Savannah, The Social at Savannah, and The Oaks at Savannah. We have church members at all three facilities. But we not only sing for our members, we sing for many other residents At the end of our singing, we always spend some time with the residents and get to know them. So even if you're not a singer, still join us so you can socialize with the residents and be a blessing to them. And believe me, they will be a blessing to you!
Christmas Poinsettias in Memory or in Honor of Loved Ones
If you would like to have a Poinsettia in the sanctuary on December 17th and 24th in memory or in honor of a loved one, go to our website to order one or more. Once you reach the website at www.AsburyMemorial.org then click on the ASBURY MARKETPLACE ICON. The price of the Poinsettia is $15, and the deadline for orders is this Sunday, December 10th. Thank you for helping us remember and honor your Loved One(s) whose names will appear in the bulletin.Â
The Angell Tree in Holliday Hall - Helping Children & Families Experience Christmas
The Angell Tree is hosted by our Youth Group each year to provide both essential and fun items for kids in our community for Christmas. The tree is in memory of our beloved youth leader, Laura Angell, who poured her heart and soul into our young members and their families.
In addition to fun gifts, we have a large need for coats and clothing for kids this year. If you are able to help, please take a card from the tree this Sunday and return the card with the items by December 17th.
Almost all of the 30 plus slips off the tree were taken last Sunday.Â
Note: Â Thank you, Asburians! You are amazing! All 30 plus slips were taken from the tree last Sunday. Since all of the slips are gone, we may put a handful more on the Tree this Sunday in case someone didn't get one who wanted one.
We had an incredible First Sunday of Advent last week, and the Second Sunday of Advent is going to be just as inspiring. Warren and James Heilman will be leading us in the lighting of the 2nd Advent Candle - the Candle of PEACE. Rev. Carole Warfield will be leading us in prayer. And the choir will be singing three great anthems: Advent Celebration, Shalom Rav, and Wade in the Water. That water image reminds me that we'll be "Remembering Our Baptism" this Sunday. But even if you haven't been baptized, you can still remember it. I'll tell you how tomorrow!Â
Love you!!
Billy
