Roll Down, Justice!

Dear Church Family,

This incredible picture of a waterfall will be on the front of the bulletin this Sunday. It was drawn by our own Jason Zimmer. Jason is an art professor at SCAD and is on our Worship Team. He is extremely generous in sharing his talents. What's even more special about Jason is that he has an extraordinarily caring heart. Jason's partner is August Alderman, who is currently in his second year of study at Chicago Theological Seminary. August is also working at Hospice Savannah. What a dynamic duo Jason and August are. We are blessed to have them as part of our church family.
The picture of the waterfall represents our theme for the season of Lent: Roll Down, Justice! It's a worship series inspiring us to let justice roll down like waters, to reach out across divides, and to alleviate suffering in all its forms.
Most of the songs the choir will be singing during our Lenten Series were written by one of our favorite composers, Mark A. Miller. Mark has a knack of combining wonderful melodies with great theology, so it makes you really want to sing his songs...and sometimes even close your eyes and start swaying to them!
This Sunday, the choir's anthem will be Child of God. It is one of my favorite Mark Miller pieces. If everyone in the world woke up and went to bed listening to this song, we would have the world God wants us to have. It makes you feel so good about yourself and about loving others.
This Sunday, we'll also be singing a new song for our Song of Meditation, so it will lead us into our time of prayer. It is called, Water, River, Spirit, Grace. If you would like to become familiar with the tune, you can hear a choir singing it at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITuazI6wdOw
Here are the words:
Water, River, Spirit, Grace
Sweep over me! Sweep over me!
Recarve the depths your fingers traced
In sculpting me, in sculpting me.

There's also going to be an incredible song within the sermon, but I won't tell you anymore about it. We'll let that one be a surprise.
It was a very, very busy week. We had a Pancake Supper, three Ash Wednesday Services, A Renewal of Vows Ceremony, Choir Practice, and a Blood Drive. Some of you were at the church four different days this week! It was a busy, busy time.
But now Lent is here.
Now it is time to relax...to focus on God, the Ground of your being.
So just relax...put your head back...and let the water carry you!
Love,
Billy
