"Big" Coffee Hour Sunday

New Member Sunday

Super Museum Sunday

& ______ Sunday!!!

Dear Church Family,

I left the last line "_____ Sunday" blank so you could try to fill it in yourself. I'll give you a clue: The word has a lot to do with the picture above. If you know what the object is, you'll get it! If you don't know what it is, you'll find out all about it on Sunday.
We're going to have a great service. David Alley will be leading us in our prayer time. Many of you know David as a singer-musician. He also is the chair of our Ministry Round Table. The Round Table focuses on the programs, events, and ministries of the church. As active as our church is, you can imagine how essential it is to have an organizing body like the Round Table.
The choir will be blessing us with the songs How Majestic is Your Name and Breath of God.
Nijah Brunner will be our liturgist and will be reading our scripture reading for the day: Matthew 5:13-16. Nijah is most famous for having the two cutest children on the planet: Taniya and Tyshawn.

Holy Communion

We will be celebrating Communion on Sunday, so I hope those of you worshipping with us at home will participate. All you need to do is have juice or water with you...and also some bread or crackers. The liturgy will be in the bulletin that we'll be emailing to you soon, so just print up the bulletin.

New Members Joining

We'll also be receiving new members into our church family on Sunday. This is always one of our favorite experiences at Asbury. After the service, be sure to meet the folks in the social hall at Coffee Hour.

BIG Coffee Hour

Speaking of Coffee Hour...since this is the first Sunday of the month, we will be having our BIG Coffee Hour. What's different between the BIG Coffee Hour and our regular Coffee Hour?
Everyone is invited to bring a food item to share with others. So the BIG Coffee Hour is almost like a Sunday Brunch. Some really good food...along with great fellowship! If you are able to bring food items to share with others on Sunday, you can drop them off in the kitchen when you get to the church.

Super Museum Sunday

Sunday is also Super Museum Sunday, one of the great annual traditions we have in Savannah. This Sunday, February 5, many of the museums will be open from 1:00 - 4:00 pm with no admission fee. Some of the museums involved will be the Girl Scout Museum, Massie Heritage Center, Oatland Island Wildlife Center, SCAD Museum of Art, Telfair Museum, and many others. To see all of the places participating, go to:

Temple Mickve Israel

One of my favorite museums in the city is the one at Temple Mickve Israel, the third oldest Jewish congregation in the United States and the first synagogue built in Georgia. However, it can be difficult to experience the museum because it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. But it will be participating in Super Museum Sunday, so you have the opportunity to experience it this Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00! It includes the two oldest Torah scrolls in North America. So check it out and maybe you'll see our old friend, Rabbi Robert Haas.

Black History Month

This will be the first Sunday in Black History Month and there a lot of museums in Savannah that can help us learn more about Black History...including the Savannah African Art Museum, the Pinpoint Heritage Museum, and historic First Bryan Baptist Church. I don't believe historic 1st African Baptist Church will be open on Sunday. And I don't think the amazing Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum is participating on Sunday due to Covid. However, you can take a quick virtual tour of the Civil Rights Museum here at:

Renewal of Vows Ceremony, February 14th

Cheri and I will be leading a Renewal of Vows Ceremony at Asbury on Valentine's Day, February 14th. I'll tell you more about it in my email next week. But go ahead and mark it in your calendar. This is for married couples - gay and straight, of course. I hope you can join us in the sanctuary for an in person experience, but if you live far away or if you're not able to get to the church, we hope to offer it online too.

February Newsletter

Be sure to check out our February Newsletter. It's got a lot of great information about the Renewal of Vows Service, Parents Night Out on February 11th, the Shrove Pancake Supper on the 21st (the night before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent) and there's a lot of great articles and pictures. The Newsletter is always on our website, but you can also go to it right at the bottom of this page.

Lights, Camera, Action!

You wouldn't have believed all of the activity at the church today. Lights, cameras, actors, and extras were all over the place inside and outside the church as the sanctuary was used for a funeral scene in an upcoming film. It was crazy and exciting!
But the real action will be this Sunday when we worship God and call upon the Holy Spirit to touch our lives. That's even more exciting!
Hope to see you on the corner of Henry and Waters on Sunday. We ask God's blessings upon those who will be worshipping online with us, too!
Love,
Billy
