Baptism of the Lord Sunday

Dear Asbury & Wesley Oak Family,
Tomorrow is one of those unique Sundays in the liturgical year that is designated with two names. It is the "First Sunday after Epiphany" and it is also known as, "Baptism of the Lord Sunday." This is the day we celebrate the start of Jesus' public ministry. The Gospel text is the baptism of Jesus by John in the Jordan River.
Remembering Our Baptism
It is our custom on this special Sunday to remember our own baptism. Over the years, we have done this symbolically in a number of creative ways. But this will be our first time experiencing it in an "in person" service during the pandemic, so we won't be able to do it in some of the ways we have experienced it in the past. But we will do it. And those of you who will be worshipping with us from home can join us, too. I hope you will. All you will need to have with you at home is a glass of water.
A Message from Our Health & Safety Task Force
I am sure that everyone is aware of the current rise in Covid cases. During this time, we thought it would be helpful to hear from our Health and Safety Task Force. Ernie Lee, who serves on the Task Force, will be making an announcement tomorrow. I want to thank all of the members of the church who serve on the Task Force and our administrator, Randy Canady, for facilitating the meetings.
Prayers for Our Health Care Workers
Let us continue to pray for the physicians, nurses, and caretakers at hospitals, hospice, nursing homes, assisted living communities, and for those who are caring for people in homes. Please also go to our newsletter which can be found on our website and pray for the persons on our Prayer List.
I look forward to being with you tomorrow and remembering our baptism. If you are not feeling well, or you know you have been exposed to Covid, please stay home and join us online. If you need help with anything, please don't hesitate to call me or the church office. We are here for you.
With Love & Blessings,
Billy
