Church Family,Â
Our good friend, Rabbi Robert Haas, will be with us to preach on Sunday. If you are new to Savannah or new to Asbury and are not familiar with the good Rabbi, please know that you'll truly be blessed on Sunday. Robert is one of the wisest, gentlest, and funniest human beings you'll ever meet. I happen to be having lunch with him later today, and I'm going to tell him to "bring it to you!" Please give him a special "Thank You" when you see him on Sunday. His wife, April, is out of town this weekend, so he is having to get a babysitter for his two beautiful children. I really appreciate his efforts. But, of course, he probably feels like he needs to be at Asbury since he considers us his satellite congregation.Â
Rev. Bob Townsend will be our host pastor this week. I appreciate Bob, Ray Ellis, and everyone else who will be leading the worship service.
Prayers for Our Church Matriarch
& for a Longtime Church Member
Virginia Holliday is the last surviving Eldeberry who was at Asbury when I came to the church in 1993. She has been the most faithful disciple of Jesus Christ I have ever known...always wanting to serve others. At 99 years of age, God will soon be calling her home. Virginia is in the hospital and will be entering Hospice Care. Please be praying for peaceful transition.Â
Mary Pulwarty was one of the first persons to become a member of Asbury after I arrived. Mary and her daughter, Faith, go all the way back to the days when I was serving Asbury and Wesley Oak. Mary has been a faithful church member for many, many years. Mary has Stage Four Cancer and has been very forthright about her condition. Mary has always been a great adventurer, and she looks forward to the next adventure God has for her.Â
Please be praying for these incredible Jewels of Asbury — Virginia Holliday and Mary Pulwarty — and be praying for their family and friends — and be praying for one another as we know that these two Souls of God mean so much to our church family.
Memorial Service for Liz Sprague Tomorrow
I will be at Asbury tomorrow to lead the Memorial Service for church member, Liz Sprague. I hope I get to see some of you there. The service is at 11:00 a.m. If you have not had a chance to read about Liz's amazing life, here is a link to her obituary:
We will continue celebrating Liz's life after the service with a reception at the Oglethorpe Club. So, if I don't see you at church, hope to see you at the reception!
Love & Blessings to all!
