Hello, Church!
The rain has been great for our plants and for cooling temps down a little bit, but it has not been predictable for making outdoor plans. Our families and members of the school system are busy trying to pack summer into these last three weeks before classes resume! The countdown has begun. And I have to say that I never really appreciated the Morton Salt slogan, “When it rains, it pours,” before living in Savannah, where a gulley-washer can pop up out of nowhere.

COVID Uptick:
There is a significant uptick in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations nationwide. It is estimated that we could have seen up to 5 million new cases in the last two weeks. While there are no changes to our protocols at this time, I urge you to consider maximizing your precautions when in public and of course, stay home when you do not feel well.
First Friends Opportunities
Our refugee family is moving this week from their single hotel room to their apartment, where they hope to be settled prior to the school year. There will be an orientation meeting for those who are interested in the effort to help refugees make a smooth transition to life in Savannah this week on Wednesday via Zoom. Come if you are curious! And we are gathering to move the furnishings into the apartment on Friday morning at 8:30 am. See This Week at Asbury for the details.
Health Note
What is the leading cause of death for US men under 50 years of age? Not accidents, not gunshots, not heart attacks or cancer or HIV. The answer is OPIOID OVERDOSES. When you hear the phrase, opioid crisis, it is no light matter. We will be working to make Asbury a safe and welcoming place for people living with substance use disorder, As Church, we are called to address this real problem in our community.
Be well until we meet again.
Love,
Claire
