Church Family,
I continue to hear about the great worship services being experienced at Asbury during the summer while I'm gone. This Sunday, you're in for another treat as Chris Kincade will be bringing the message and Rev. Lynn Drake will be the host minister.
For those of you who don't know Chris, he is the director of our Children's Ministry, our Youth Ministry, and the Ministry of Communications. He's the one who puts together our wonderful monthly newsletter. He's also the husband of Bridgette, who is in charge of our Nursery Ministry, and Chris is the father of Fitz, who is in charge of herding all the children to Godly Play on Sundays. The Kincade family is a true blessing for the Asbury/Wesley Oak Family.
One of my favorite parts of our weekly staff meetings is when Chris shares a story involving one of the church's children or youth. Just as exciting as the story itself is hearing the love in Chris' voice for the youngster and the passion he has for ministry. Needless to say, we are so very blessed to have Chris as part of our staff. He is beloved by everyone. I am excited for all of you in getting to hear Chris this Sunday.

YOU'VE THOUGHT ABOUT JOINING THE CHOIR?
THERE'S NO BETTER TIME THAN NOW!

The choir has had a little break, but is starting back with rehearsals on Wednesday, August 2nd!
There are a lot of reasons to join the choir:
  • They are starting up for the new season...so you'll be getting in on the ground floor!
  • They'll be singing at Miss Virginia's Memorial Service on August 20th!
  • They'll start work on the music for God On Broadway, and it's a great series of shows we'll be using.
  • Ray Ellis is the World's Greatest Choir Director!
  • You'll get to know more members of your church family.
  • Even though some serious singing goes on, there's also a lot of fun and laughter!
Rehearsals start on Wednesday, August 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. There is a possibly of having a meal for the choir at 5:30, but that is not confirmed at this time. Ray Ellis will send out a congregational email on Sunday or Monday to confirm the plans as to whether the time will be 5:30 or 6:30 pm. If you have thought about being in the choir or you know someone who would enjoy being in the choir, let them know that now's a really good time to take the plunge!

NEW MEMBER CLASSES

I appreciate Candace Jenkins giving the announcements before the worship service while I've been gone. Candace wears a number of different hats at Asbury. One of her major tasks is to oversee our New Member Orientation Classes. So if you are looking for a church home and are interested in learning more about church membership and the classes, please contact Candace after church or at the church office. She will be glad to assist you.

OUR DEAR MARY

Most of you know that Mary Pulwarty made her transition to eternity this past week. Please continue to pray for Mary's husband, Renwick, and their children and extended family as they go through this difficult time of loss and transition.
The Memorial Service for Mary will not be until Sunday, October 15th at 3:00 p.m.
That's the Sunday we'll be using the sights and sounds of the musical, Hair, for our God On Broadway Service. When I told Mary's daughter, Faith, about Mary's service being on the same Sunday as Hair, Faith said, "That's perfect! Momma always wanted to be a hippie!"
It's perfect indeed! That's the show that has the song, "Let the sunshine in!" And Mary was constantly bringing the sunshine!
Love & Blessings to all!
Billy
