This is "Wear Orange Weekend" — the weekend we focus on Gun Violence Prevention. If you live in Savannah and the surrounding areas, I hope you will wear orange and join me today at 1:00 pm at 1st African Baptist Church for a very special event called "Beating Guns." Shane Claiborne and Rev. Sharon Risher will be featured speakers, and Huxsie Scott will be ministering to us through song. Most importantly we will be there to support those whose lives have been affected by gun violence. We will also be inspired to create a world that's safer for our children as we turn swords into plowshares.

WTOC did a couple of stories about the event. Here is one of them: 

After wearing orange on Saturday, wear red on Sunday as we celebrate Pentecost. Red symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit that was experienced on the Day of Pentecost. Special guest, Shane Claiborne will be bringing us the message, so please invite friends to come hear Shane. Members of our Wesley Oak Campus will be joining us as we celebrate the birth of the church and have Holy Communion together. Those of you who will be worshipping with us online, we encourage you to have bread or crackers and juice or water with you so you can participate in Communion with us. 

On the first Sunday of the month, we encourage folks to bring food to share with others for a brunch together after the service. If you are able to bring food items, please drop them off in the kitchen when you arrive at church.

VBS starts next Sunday for children in K-5th grades! Parents and grandparents, be sure to register your child at
asburymemorial.mycokesburyvbs.com 
for this incredible experience that starts next Sunday evening and goes to Friday evening.

All the joy, fun, and learning start each night at 5:30 pm and goes to 8:30 pm. Supper is provided. VBS is one of those special, special experiences at Asbury. Thank you to all of our members (lay ministers) who give of their time and energy to make VBS so special!

Our Stephen Ministry will be hosting a Grief Seminar titled, "Life after Loss: Tools for the Journey." The event will be Saturday, June 18th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. We are blessed that our very own, Rev. Holland Morgan, is a retired Bereavement Counselor and will be leading the workshop. There is no fee, but It will help to know the number of people in attendance, so please call the church office to reserve your place at 912-233-4351.

With Shane Claiborne coming to preach tomorrow, with it being Pentecost, with us having Holy Communion, and a BIG Coffee Hour, tomorrow would be a GREAT day for someone to visit Asbury! Pick up the phone today and invite someone to experience a very special faith community. You will be giving them a wonderful gift!
