PICK A DATE TO DONATE!
(Calendar Capital Campaign Starts Sunday!)
Â
Church Family,
The halls of Asbury will be decorated with 12 monthly calendars this Sunday for people to participate in a very creative way to raise money for the church. Come find your birthday or anniversary or some other special date on the calendar, print your name in the square, and donate the date. Our goal is to fill every day of the calendar year. If we do, we will raise almost $67,000.00 to help pay for fixing our aging roof and other property concerns! As our Stewardship Committee reminded us in a recent email, our sanctuary is 100 years old!
How Does it Work?
Hopefully you saw the recent email from the Stewardship Committee explaining the Raise the Roof Campaign. It did a great job of explaining how it works.
Now, here it is in "Billy Language":
If I choose January 15th as a date, I would pay $15.
If I choose February 3, I would pay for the 31 days in January plus the 3 days in February, so I would pay a total of $34.Â
So the amount we pay is the cumulative amount of all the days before the date we select plus the date we select.
The most any one person would pay is $365. That's for the person who selects December 31st (365 days in a year).
See how it works?
We only want one name per date, so if someone already has signed up for your birthday or anniversary, please choose another date that is significant for you.
Please know that it's okay to sign up for more than one date.
For instance, if I sign up for January 10th and January 20th, I'd pay a total of $30.
If I sign up for January 10th and February 3rd, I'd pay $44.
We'll need everyone's participation to fill up the calendar. We have figured out a way for those who are out of town for the summer and those who worship with us online to participate. You'll be hearing about that process on Sunday!
Speaking of Sunday's Announcement...
I understand that the announcement about the Calendar Capital Campaign is going to be a doozie! You don't want to miss it! So be sure to be on time for church so you can hear the announcements at the start of the service.
We thank the Stewardship Committee for coming up with this clever and creative way to raise money for the church quickly without it being too financially taxing on any one person.Â
"BIG" COFFEE HOUR THIS SUNDAY
We postponed last Sunday's BIG Coffee Hour so we can have it this Sunday after our VBS week. So bring your wonderful goodies to share with others after the worship service. You can drop your food items off at the kitchen when you arrive. Thanks for sharing your vittles with everyone!Â
CELEBRATING HERO HOTLINE VBS
The children of the church have had a blast at VBS this week learning how to be spiritual heroes. They will be sharing some of the songs they learned at Hero Hotline in worship on Sunday. Come, support our heroes!Â
WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS
I am ecstatic that we get to welcome a new member of Asbury Memorial/Wesley Oak during our worship service on Sunday. I'm looking forward to introducing her and her son to you. We are so blessed to have them with us!
For others who are looking for a church home, we will be having New Member Orientation Classes in October, and we'd love to have you be part of them. If you have any questions about church membership or the church in general, please contact Connectional Ministries Coordinator, Candace Jenkins, at the church office. Feel free to contact me, also.
CELEBRATING TWO NEW AUTHORS AMONG US
I've just learned that Helen Bradley of our Asbury Campus and Denise Cooey of our Wesley Oak Campus have both recently had a book published. Helen's book is a novel entitled, Breach of Trust.Â
Denise's book is a children's book titled, Armondo the Armadillo.Â
Congratulations, Helen and Denise!
Looking forward to Sunday.Â
My sermon title is Batman, Jumpman, and Turnman.Â
The biblical texts are: Exodus 3:7-13, 4:10-17.
Love & Blessings to all!
