Dear Asbury & Wesley Oak Family,
I hope you have had a good week and hope you will join us tomorrow for your Sabbath experience.
HONORING OUR GRADUATES
Tomorrow we'll be recognizing our high school and college graduates during the worship service. Congratulations to all of our graduates and their families for achieving this great accomplishment.Â
J.J. & P.C. IN A MUSICAL & VISUAL CONCERT SUNDAY AFTERNOON
At 3:00 pm tomorrow afternoon, church members, J.J. and P.C. Collins will be offering a very special concert/art experience at the Unitarian Universalist Church.
Here is the link that tells you about this unique experience and how to get tickets:
"BEATING GUNS" EVENT, SATURDAY, JUNE 4th
We are collaborating with the Savannah Alliance of Pastors, Red Letter Christians Organization, Moms Demand Action Organization, Full Circle Hospice, and Shane and Katie Claiborne in a special event for all of Savannah on June 4th. The event supports gun violence prevention and also lifts up the families of gun violence victims. The event will start at 1:00 pm at the First African Baptist Church. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Sharon Risher, whose mother and two cousins were murdered during their Bible Sunday at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston. Nationally known Christian activist and speaker, Shane Claiborne, will also be participating. Ironically, this event follows the very recent shooting in a Presbyterian Church in California and the mass shooting in a Buffalo grocery story that killed 10 people,
After the presentation, participants will move outside to Franklin Square in front of the church for the rest of the event - which will include testimonies from survivors, music by Huxsie Scott, and the transformation of a gun into a functioning garden tool with the help of blacksmith, Katie Claiborne.Â
I want to give our Rev. Claire Marich a big "Thank you" for helping plan and organize this important event. I hope you are able to attend.
NEW MEMBER CLASSES
If you are looking for a church home, we'd be honored to have you be part of our faith family. We don't have all of the answers, but we enjoy being on the journey together. In the coming weeks, we'll offer a New Member Orientation Class. If you would like to participate, please talk with Candace Jenkins after the service OR you can watch the service on Sunday!
A VERY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY PRESENT & LOOKING FOR A NAME
As many of you know, my mother had her 93rd birthday this week. The congregation blessed her with a wonderful rendition of Happy Birthday last Sunday. She could really feel the love behind the song. Thank you for your love for her.Â
This week, grandchildren flew in town from New York and California for the special occasion. My oldest daughter, Chelsea, and her husband, Chris, presented mom with a very special present. It was a framed sonogram - a picture of Joan's first great-grandchild! The baby is due November 2nd. (Gender unknown)
We are looking for a name. Not for the baby.Â
For Cheri!
As excited as she is about the coming of our new little one, she's not too keen about being called, Grandma or Granny.
She kind of liked "Glandma" - a mixture of "Glamour and Grandma", but she's decided it sounds too much like "Grandma."Â
If you have any suggestions, please send them our way!!!Â
Love and Blessings,
Billy
