Home for a Special Sunday!

undefined
Dear Church Family,
Cheri, Wesley, and I just returned from a quick, but wonderful, trip to New York to see our new grandson, Anson Augustus, sometimes known as "Auggie." He is doing marvelous...as are his parents, Chelsea and Chris. We were also able to hook up with our son, Wendell, who lives not far from Chelsea and Chris in NYC.
We're glad to be back in time for the special service tomorrow. I have always loved the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It's especially significant since it is also "Commitment Sunday" — the day we offer our pledges for the 2023 budget.
Thanks again to Mimi Mangrum Numer for designing our Pledge Cards this year. You should have received one in the mail. If you didn't, we will have extras in the church narthex. You will have the opportunity to bring your cards forward during the service to place them in the beautiful basket we have used for many years (loaned to us by Dottie and Jim Kluttz). If you desire, you also will be able to pray at the altar as the choir sings the beautiful anthem, "Consider the Lilies".

Welcome, Zander!

We're having a special guest with us tomorrow: Zander Moricz, who captured the nation's attention with his brave and creative commencement speech when he was class president at Pine View High School in Florida. Zander was brought to Savannah by an event sponsored by The First City Network and Savannah Pride Center. We are glad Zander can worship with us and share part of his journey. If you would like to see Zander's commencement speech, it can be found at this link:

Another Special Guest

We also have another special guest coming to church tomorrow. This one I'll let be a surprise. But I'll give you a clue or two:
  • You can sometimes see him sitting in Chippewa Square.
  • He loves chocolate.

Instrumental Duet

Tomorrow, Rev. Holland Morgan and Kay Deffley will be playing an organ/piano medley of Thanksgiving hymns for the offertory. I can't wait!
There will also be other experiences of worship that will celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving. The "harvest" will be brought to the altar as we sing our opening hymn, "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come." The choir will be singing "All Good Gifts" from the musical, Godspell. And the sermon will be about Thanks-Living.
Come, ye thankful, people!
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Love, Peace, & Blessings,
Billy
