God on Broadway...at Last!

Dear Church Family,
"Staggering!" That's what so many people south of us are saying about their experience with Hurricane Ian. After hearing about the overwhelming size and strength of Ian, we have all breathed a sigh of relief that our area was not hit by its indescribable force. Veterans of numerous hurricanes in Florida said they have never seen anything like it.

Come, Give Thanks & Pray for Others"

I would hope that Savannahians will be packing synagogues, mosques, and churches this weekend to give thanks and to pray for those who have been hit by the storm south of us and those who will be affected by the storm north of us.
It is times like these that we realize how much we take for granted: homes, cars, electricity, water, food, shelter, friends, family. We have so much to be thankful for. I hope you will be in church on Sunday to thank God for our many blessings.
And I hope you will be with us as Rev. Claire Marich leads us in prayer for those whose lives have been turned upside down.
Amazingly, Sandy Hoecherl and her family are planning to be at church just after losing Harry - Sandy's husband of 67 years. We have the opportunity to be with them and to continue lifting them up in prayer.
God On Broadway is Finally Here!
I'm so excited about Sunday's worship service. We've been waiting to offer a God on Broadway Service for a long time. Actor Jonathan Rabb will be with us to help use the play, Amadeus, as a steppingstone to understanding the teachings of the Bible and to hearing God's voice in our lives. It's going to be an incredible service!
I encourage you to invite family, friends, and strangers. The majority of people in our country do not attend church. There are many different reasons why only 47% of Americans are part of a church, synagogue or mosque. One of the major reasons has to do with people viewing Christianity as judgmental or hypocritical. Another reason is that it can be boring—or it doesn't seem to relate to the things people are going through in life. Some people have been hurt by the Church, and others are scared of it.
God on Broadway is a wonderful opportunity to help someone try church and to experience a God that is for them, not against them—to experience a faith community that is for them, not against them. Don't be bashful in inviting people. You have the opportunity to change someone's life for the better.

Holy Communion & Big Coffee Hour

We will have TWO meals together on Sunday. First, we'll be celebrating Holy Communion during the worship service. For those who will be worshipping online through our Livestream Ministry, don't forget that you can participate with us. Simply have bread or a cookie and juice or water with you.

Unfortunately, our on liners can't participate in our second meal which will be after the service in Holliday Hall. We'll be having our BIG Coffee Hour. If you are able, please bring goodies to share with others. You can drop your food item off in the kitchen when you arrive at church. Thanks for sharing your goodies!

Financial News - QR Code Added to Bulletin
Starting this Sunday, we will have financial information on the back of the bulletin, so you can be better aware of our financial situation. This information has been in the monthly newsletter, but we feel it will be more accessible in the weekly bulletin. As you will see, the pandemic has affected our offering giving in a major way. As people become more comfortable in attending worship, we hope the giving will increase. But currently we are in a deep hole. You will be hearing more about this from our Stewardship Committee and Finance Committee in the coming weeks.
There is another addition to the bulletin relating to finances. We have added Asbury's QR Code. Like magic—your phone and Asbury's QR Code can take you directly to the site for making contributions and offerings.
Newsletter & October News
We have a lot of great events coming up in October. Be sure to check out the October Newsletter which will soon be available. Two events I'm really looking forward to (besides all of our God on Broadway Services) are our annual Trunk or Treat Event at the Wesley Oak Campus and the PRIDE Event which will be held at Daffin Park this year.
Also, don't forget about our Wednesday Night Suppers that start at 5:30 p.m. It's wonderful to see people breaking bread and sharing their lives with one another.
God bless you. Hope to see Sunday as we come to church thankful, prayerful, and anticipating the movement of God's Spirit in our lives!
Love, Peace, & Blessings,
Billy
