Dear Asbury and Wesley Oak Family,
The doorbell rang Wednesday night at the Hester’s house in Magnolia Park. When I opened the front door, there were a handful of Asbury youth standing before me. I smiled and told them they were a week early – that Halloween is a week away!
But Asbury’s Trick or Treaters weren’t there to receive anything. They were there to give something away. Going door to door in Magnolia Park, our youth passed out bags to people to fill with canned goods and non-perishable foods. It’s part of their “It’s Spooky to be Hungry Food Drive.” The filled bags will be picked up or dropped off at Asbury Memorial. We will then deliver them to the food pantry at Wesley Oak and the Second Harvest Food Bank. The Food Drive goes through October 31st, so there are two more Sundays to bring food items to Asbury. If you would like to participate but can’t get the items to the church, please call the office. We will arrange for the items to be picked up. By the way, all of the food is being put on the stage and altar area of the sanctuary. It’s looking great!
Thank you, youth, for your visit at our door and for all your efforts to help the hungry. And thank you, Chris Kincade, Beth Tyson, Nate Tyson, Maria Spears, and Bridgette Kincade for all you do for our youth.
Worship This Sunday
This Sunday, Lila West will be helping me with the announcements in our worship service. Lila and her family travel all the way from Ludowici, Georgia, for Sunday services and church activities.  Thank you, Lila, and thank you West family. You all are amazing!
Tim and Patty Steinhauser will be doing the “We Give Thanks sharing” at church this Sunday. We Give Thanks is our stewardship theme this year. I am thankful for Patty and Tim for all they do for the church and for being willing to share part of their lives and stories with us.
Rev. Bob Chvatal will be offering prayers, and Wayne Bland will be reading scripture. The text is the story from Mark’s gospel about blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52.) My sermon title is, “When the Blind Can Help Us See.”
Blessings to you this weekend. Hope to see you on Sunday!
Love,
Billy
