August 13, 2017:10th Sunday after Pentecost Sixth Sunday in the 2017 Asbury Memorial UMC "Summer Preaching Series"
The guest speaker for this Sunday's service was Rev. Jonathan (Jon) Chapman. Jon graduated from Candler School of Theology, Emory University, in May, 2010. At Candler, he was active with the Office of Worship and was awarded the Hoyt Hickman Award for Outstanding Liturgical Scholarship. He returned to Emory in 2016 to pursue his Doctor of Ministry. In 2012, he joined Westfield Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, and was installed as Pastor and Teacher in May, 2013. He was selected to be a part of the Next Generation Leadership Initiative, an innovative UCC program that works with young clergy committed to parish ministry through a decade-long relationship. He married his husband Greg (also a UCC pastor) in December of 2014.
The flowers for this Sunday's service were given to the honor of God.
Special Thanks:
Every Sunday at Asbury, there are people who work behind the scenes to help make the day so meaningful and wonderful for all of us and for our visitors. We thank those unsung heroes of faith—our hospitality team, ushers, greeters, connectors, nursery workers, and children's church teachers.
