ALL: But all of us have weaknesses, and it is these weaknesses that make us human. It is our goofs, our blemishes, and our failures that make us real.
ONE: Maybe I don't want to be real. Maybe I want to be competent and controlled. Maybe I want to keep my failings in check, so that no one knows when I fail.
ALL: But that would be denying who you are. Besides, our vulnerabilities and weaknesses are what make us able to accept the "warts and all" of others. We are called to accept the thorns of others, just as God accepts them in us.
ONE: Let us pray:
ALL: God of the blemished and goof-prone, we come to you with our strengths and weaknesses. Help us to be authentic and vulnerable. Help us to be ourselves. Forgive us when we allow our pride and ego to consume us and harm our relationships. Help us to discover that when we are weak, we are strong. Amen.
